How to Track Your Water Intake
Learn how to log water consumption, set daily goals, and manage hydration reminders.
Staying hydrated is crucial for your health, and the Water Card on the Home tab makes it easy to track your intake throughout the day.
Logging Water
Quick Add from Home Tab
The water card displays your progress toward your daily goal with convenient quick-add buttons.
Step 1: Find the Water card on the Home tab
Step 2: Below the progress bar, you'll see several quick-add buttons:
- +250mL (about 1 cup)
- +500mL (about 2 cups)
- +750mL (about 3 cups)
Step 3: Tap any button to instantly add that amount to your daily total
Step 4: Watch your progress bar update in real-time
Viewing Details and Setting Goals
Accessing the Full Water Screen
Step 1: Tap the "Details" button on the Water card
Step 2: This opens the full Water Tracking screen where you can:
- Add custom amounts of water
- View your water log history by day
- Change your daily goal
- Set up water reminders
Setting Your Daily Goal
Why Set a Goal?
Your ideal water intake depends on:
- Body weight and size
- Activity level
- Climate and temperature
- Overall health status
- Dietary habits
How to Change Your Goal
Step 1: Open the Water Tracking detail screen
Step 2: Tap on the current goal amount at the top
Step 3: A picker will appear allowing you to select your new daily goal
Step 4: Choose an amount (typically between 1.5L - 4L for most adults)
Step 5: Tap "Save" to confirm
General Guidelines
Sedentary adults: 2-2.5 liters per day
Active individuals: 3-3.5 liters per day
Athletes or hot climates: 4+ liters per day
During illness: Increase intake as recommended by healthcare provider
Adding Custom Amounts
Manual Entry
Step 1: On the Water Tracking detail screen, tap the "Add Water" button
Step 2: Use the picker to select the exact amount you consumed
Step 3: Optionally adjust the time if you're logging water from earlier
Step 4: Tap "Save" to add it to your log
Common Custom Amounts
- Water bottle size (varies by brand)
- Glass size at home
- Restaurant serving size
- Post-workout hydration
Setting Water Reminders
Why Use Reminders?
Regular reminders help you:
- Stay consistently hydrated throughout the day
- Build healthy hydration habits
- Avoid dehydration during busy periods
- Meet your daily water goals
How to Set Up Reminders
Step 1: Open the Water Tracking detail screen
Step 2: Tap "Reminders" or the bell icon
Step 3: Enable "Water Reminders"
Step 4: Configure your reminder schedule:
- Start time — When to begin reminders (e.g., 8:00 AM)
- End time — When to stop reminders (e.g., 9:00 PM)
- Interval — How often to remind you (e.g., every 2 hours)
Step 5: Choose your reminder sound and notification style
Step 6: Tap "Save"
Best Practices
- Set reminders during waking hours only
- Space reminders 1-2 hours apart
- Avoid reminders right before bed
- Adjust based on your schedule and needs
Viewing Water History
Daily Log
On the Water Tracking detail screen:
- Scroll down to see all water entries for today
- Each entry shows the amount and time logged
- Swipe left on any entry to delete it if entered by mistake
Weekly and Monthly Trends
Step 1: Tap "History" or the calendar icon
Step 2: View your hydration patterns over time:
- Daily totals for the past week
- Weekly averages
- Days you met your goal
- Trends and streaks
Changing Units
Available Units
You can track water in:
- Milliliters (mL)
- Liters (L)
- Fluid Ounces (fl oz)
- Cups
How to Change Units
Step 1: Go to the Profile tab
Step 2: Tap on "Measurement Settings"
Step 3: Find the "Water" option
Step 4: Select your preferred unit
Step 5: All water tracking displays will update to use the new unit
Syncing with Apple Health
Automatic Sync
Water intake logged in Sunu is automatically written to Apple Health, and vice versa.
Benefits:
- Consolidate data from multiple apps
- Access water data in Apple Health's weekly/monthly summaries
- Share with healthcare providers through Health app
Troubleshooting Sync
If water data isn't syncing:
Step 1: Check Apple Health permissions
- Go to Settings > Health > Data Access & Devices > Sunu
- Ensure Water has both read and write access
Step 2: Force sync by pulling to refresh on the Home tab
Step 3: Restart the app if issues persist
Tips for Staying Hydrated
Build the Habit
- Start your day with a glass of water
- Keep a water bottle visible on your desk
- Drink water before each meal
- Use the quick-add buttons regularly
Monitor Your Progress
- Check the water card throughout the day
- Aim to meet 25% of your goal by noon
- Reach 75% by evening
- Complete your goal 1-2 hours before bed
Listen to Your Body
- Increase intake during exercise
- Drink more in hot weather
- Adjust if urine is dark yellow
- Don't force excessive amounts
💧 Hydration Tip
If you forget to log water immediately, you can always add it later by tapping "Details" and manually entering the amount with the time you consumed it. Accuracy matters more than real-time logging!
