Taking the Blink Test (MBI Analysis)
Learn how to perform the Momentary Blink Interval test to record your natural blink patterns.
The Momentary Blink Interval (MBI) test records your natural, spontaneous blink patterns. This test measures the timing and characteristics of your blinking behavior.
Before You Start
What You'll Need
- A well-lit environment
- Your face clearly visible to the front camera
- 2-3 minutes of uninterrupted time
- Comfortable seating position

Accessing the Test
Step 1: Navigate to the Home tab
Step 2: Scroll down to find the Health Tests section
Step 3: Tap on the "Blink Test" card
The Calibration Process
For accurate results, you must first calibrate the system to your eyes. This is a quick, one-time setup that teaches the app how to recognize your unique eye characteristics.
Starting Calibration
Step 1: If you see a "Calibrate Now" button, tap it to begin
Step 2: Follow the on-screen instructions:
Calibration Steps
Position Your Face
- Center your face in the camera view
- Ensure your eyes are clearly visible
- Maintain a comfortable distance (about 12-18 inches)
Look Straight Ahead
- Keep your eyes open
- Look directly at the camera
- Maintain a neutral, relaxed expression
Blink Naturally
- Blink normally a few times when prompted
- Don't force or exaggerate your blinks
- Let your eyes behave naturally
Step 3: Once calibration is complete, you're ready to start the test
Performing the Test
Starting the Test
Step 1: After calibrating, tap the "Start Test" button
Step 2: The test will run for 1-2 minutes
Step 3: Simply look at the screen naturally during this time
During the Test
What to Do:
- Look at the screen with a relaxed gaze
- Blink naturally as you normally would
- Stay relatively still (small movements are fine)
- Breathe normally and stay relaxed
What NOT to Do:
- Don't try to force or control your blinking
- Don't stare without blinking
- Don't blink excessively or unnaturally
- Don't move your head around significantly
Live Metrics
While the test is running, you'll see real-time information:
- Current blink count
- Blink rate (blinks per minute)
- Test progress and time remaining
Stopping the Test
Manual Stop: Tap the "Stop Test" button at any time to finish
Automatic Stop: The app will automatically stop after the recommended duration (usually 1-2 minutes)
Tips for Best Results
Optimal Environment
- Good, even lighting on your face
- Minimize bright backlighting or glare
- Quiet environment to help you relax
- Comfortable temperature (not too cold or hot)
Physical State
- Well-rested eyes (avoid testing when very tired)
- Not immediately after screen time
- Contact lens wearers: remove lenses if possible
- Blink naturally before starting to moisten eyes
Mental State
- Relaxed and calm
- Not rushed or stressed
- Focused but not tense
- Natural breathing
When to Test
- Best times: Morning or mid-day when rested
- Avoid: Late evening when tired
- Avoid: Immediately after long screen sessions
- Avoid: When eyes feel strained or dry
Recalibration
When to Recalibrate
You may need to recalibrate if:
- You wear glasses sometimes but not others
- Significant changes in lighting conditions
- You've changed your appearance (new glasses, etc.)
- Test results seem inconsistent or inaccurate
How to Recalibrate
Step 1: Go to the Blink Test screen
Step 2: Tap the settings or menu icon
Step 3: Select "Recalibrate"
Step 4: Follow the calibration process again
Troubleshooting
"Face Not Detected"
- Ensure adequate lighting
- Position your face in the center
- Remove any obstructions (hair, hands)
- Try cleaning your camera lens
"Eyes Not Recognized"
- Make sure your eyes are fully visible
- Remove sunglasses or dark glasses
- Increase ambient lighting
- Open eyes fully during calibration
Inconsistent Results
- Recalibrate the system
- Ensure stable positioning
- Minimize head movement
- Test in better lighting
